LinkedIn has over 766 million users. It has the largest pool of professionals, with 92% of Fortune 500 companies and over 50 million businesses registered on the platform. 87% of recruiters are also said to use the platform regularly. These statistics show why LinkedIn has become a reliable and trustworthy source for people and businesses alike.
It also explains why salespeople, recruiters, and other organizations that choose to develop a connection use LinkedIn as their preferred source of obtaining relevant pieces of information on prospects. In the article, we will discuss how to export LinkedIn Contacts.
How To Export Using LinkedIn
LinkedIn is the go-to option for most professionals who want to build quality connections. It is an excellent place for sales reps and recruiters to prospect and cultivate their relationships and network. Unfortunately, there is so much you can do on the platform, and to land those prospects, it’s best to get additional details like an email address and phone number.
You can go to each connection and manually get the public information about the contacts, but this will be a tedious and time-consuming method. Instead, there is a faster way to get all those contacts quickly. And we will highlight this method here. The first thing to know is this method allows you to download contacts in bulk, and therefore it’s a faster and more efficient approach.
There are two ways you can download in bulk from LinkedIn. The first method goes this way:
- Step 1: Sign in to your LinkedIn profile.
- Step 2: Go to the “Me” icon on the top tab and click on it.
- Step3: A drop-down list will appear. Click on “Privacy and Settings.”
- Step 4: These should open a new page on a new tab. Click on “Data Privacy” on your Left rail.
- Step 5: After these, click on the “How LinkedIn uses your data.”
- Step 6: You will see some options appear. Click on the change button on the “Get a copy of your data.”
- Step 7: Clicking on “Get a copy of your data” will bring out two drop-down options. Choose the “Want something in particular? Select the data file you’re most interest in” option.
- Step 8: After that, click on “connection” since you want your LinkedIn contacts. And then click the “request archive” button below.
- Step 9: Enter your password to confirm the request and wait for LinkedIn to email you.
- Step 10: When the email comes in, click on the link. It should take you back to your data privacy section. Click on request archive again, and then the file downloads.
There is another way to download the LinkedIn file. It is:
- Step 1: On your LinkedIn home page, click on “My Network” on the top bar.
- Step 2: On the left-hand side, you will see a list. Click on “connections.”
- Step 3: After doing that, on the next page, you will see the button “managed synced and imported contact” on the right. Click on this.
- Step 4: On the next page, click on “export contacts” under “advanced action.”
- Step 5: Continue from step 4 from the first method.
These are the two ways to download the information from your contacts in bulk. The download comes in the .CSV (Comma Separated Value) format, and you can download it straight to your excel or Google docs.

The Limitation of Using LinkedIn
After downloading, you will have this set of information made available to you:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Company
- Job Title
- Email Address
- Date Connected
While you have access to rich information about all these people, you will notice the LinkedIn method’s first limitation is the mostly blank email address. This phenomenon wasn’t always like this. Before 2018, if you downloaded this same list, you would have access to the email address. This problem started in 2018 when LinkedIn made contact information private. It did this by making the default setting on sharing contact information like email addresses private.
This action meant most people would have to make their information public if you want to contact them. The privatization of email addresses happened because people who got hold of the emails spammed other members. These members complained, and LinkedIn saw this solution as the answer. Sadly, the solution has led to recruiters, marketers, salespersons, and other businesses that want to connect genuinely in a dilemma.
The second limitation of the LinkedIn method is you cannot directly download into your CRM/ATS tool. You would have to download the file on your excel first and then transfer it to your CRM software.
Other Options You Can Use
The good news is there are other ways to get those precious emails from LinkedIn, and we will briefly highlight two in this section.
The first is using Phantombuster. This tool requires various steps to get the email addresses. To summarise, the website has a list of apps with different functions. To download contacts from LinkedIn, you will need two of these apps. The first is the LinkedIn Contact extractor, and the second is LinkedIn Profile Scrapper. You need both to get the emails, and you also need a paid account to use the second tool because you need more credit to access it.
The other method of getting emails is to use SalesQL. This option is another good one you can use. You download its chrome extension, click on the “download connection” on its interface and input the number of profiles to download from your contacts per day. Limit yourself to downloading a few profiles per day to prevent your account from getting suspended. You need the paid version to download more profiles and export the CSV files.
One downside of both methods is that you cannot directly download into your CRM tool. Meaning you have to re-transfer the file yourself, which is a waste of time. The Phantombuster approach is also overly complicated and has too many steps.
