Early Start

While playing youth basketball in Columbus, Ohio, Tyler Joseph met future bandmate Nick Thomas.

Joseph and Thomas remained friends throughout high school after Thomas transferred to Joseph’s middle school.

In the early 1990s, Joseph started playing music after discovering an old keyboard inside his closet, which his mother had given to him for Christmas.

The basement of Joseph’s parents was the location where he recorded his solo album, No Phun Intended, in 2007.
Career Journey

2010: A cover of “Jar of Hearts” by Christina Perri and a remixed interpretation of “Con te partirò (Time to Say Goodbye)” by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman were uploaded by the band in SoundCloud.

2011: Twenty One Pilots released their second album, Regional at Best, with only Joseph and Dun as members.

2012: Fueled by Ramen announced the band’s signing at the Lifestyle Communities Pavilion. An EP entitled Three Songs, their debut Fueled by Ramen recording, was released in July.

2013: Twenty One Pilots’ third album, Vessel, was released, which soared to No. 21 on the Billboard 200, No. 9 on the Digital Albums chart, No. 17 on the Internet Albums chart, No. 15 on the Rock Albums Chart, and No. 10 on the Alternative Albums Chart.

2014: The band performed at several music festivals across the United States, including Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Boston Calling, and Firefly.

2015: The band announced that a new album, Blurryface, was to be released in May of this year and “Fairly Local”, its first single was released in March while the second single, “Tear in My Heart” in April.

2017: Twenty One Pilots won a Grammy Award for “Stressed Out” in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category.

2018: Both of the band’s new singles, “Jumpsuit” and “Nico and the Niners”, as well as the music videos for both, were released in July.

2019: “Chlorine” has been released as a single and has been directed by Mark C. Eshleman of Reel Bear Media. The video features an alien-like creature known as “Ned”.

2021: The duo’s sixth studio album, Scaled and Icy was released.

- The band name came from Arthur Miller classic play “All My Sons” about a man who sold faulty airplane parts which caused the death of 21 pilots.
- They are one of the 3 artists who managed to get two singles in the Top 10 of Billboard 100 simultaneously (other two are Elvis Presley and the Beatles).
- Tyler Joseph’s parents hoped he could get into basketball scholarship so he was asked to make 500 shots before dinner!
