Early Start
- Each member of the band is a British citizen, and they met at St Edward’s School, Oxford.
- At the age of 13, Bayley returned to the UK from the US, where his father worked.
- When he arrived at St. Edwards for a music scholarship, he met MacFarlane who also grew up in the US and later on introduced him to Irwin-Singer and Seaward.
Career Journey
- 2012: The single “Cocoa Hooves” was part of their debut EP, Leaflings which was released under Kaya Kaya Records, a subsidiary and imprint of XL Recordings (part of the Beggars Group of labels) independently.
- 2013: Black Mambo / Exxus EP was released in Europe, and Glass Animals EP in the US by the band.
- 2014: The band performed at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas for the first time
- 2016: They released the lead single, “Life Itself”, from their second album How to Be a Human Being where it soared to the number 14 on Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart and on Sirius XM’s Alt-18 chart at number one.
- 2020: In order to “keep focus on the Black Lives Matter movement and the conversations about racism and police brutality worldwide, the band advised the delay in the release of their album.
- 2021: “Heat Waves” placed first in Australia’s Triple J Hottest 100 of 2020, while “Tangerine” placed 18th and “Your Love (Déjà Vu)” ranked 51st.
Awards & Recognition
- They surpassed Spotify’s one billion streams on Spotify and made it to US Billboard Hot 100 top spot, and UK Singles Chart top 5.
- Glass Animals were nominated for two Brit Awards at the 2022 Brit Awards (Best British Rock Act and Best British Single, “Heat Waves”).
- During the 2022 Grammys, they received their first Grammy nomination for Best New Artist.

- Dave Bayley took a medical degree in London.
- Drew MacFarlane was arrested by the police for climbing over a Milwaukee road sign with no clothes on.
- The band name Glass animals are just random words in the dictionary and there is really no reason behind it.
