National Indigenous Music Awards
The National Indigenous Music Awards – one of Australia’s most prestigious and important events – will be held at the iconic Darwin Amphitheater this August 6 to celebrate its fourteenth birthday, once again with Mob, friends, and family.
When we talk about the Australian music circuit, we talk about the modern bands and musicians hailing from heaven down under and making headlines worldwide by their hit singles and albums. Many musicians like Kylie Minogue, Sia, Nick Cave, Iggy Azalea, Gotye, Rick Springfield, Jimmy Barns, et cetera and bands like AC/DC, Midnight Oil, INXS, Jet, Wolfmother, Bee Gees, The Living End, et cetera have carved a niche for themselves across the globe and have given Australian music a recognition across the world, but there is another face of Australian music too, the Indigenous music.
The music of the Torres Strait Islanders and the Aboriginal Australians is collectively known as the Australian Indigenous Music. The Australian Indigenous music comprises of the traditional music style along with contemporary and European fusion. The traditional music of Australia incorporates the use of traditional instruments like Didgeridoo and Clapsticks and the traditional music forms include Bunggul, Kun-borrk, Wangga and Clan songs and songlines.
For Australians, Indigenous music is a vital part of the Indigenous Australian culture and hence, they want to preserve it by all means. In order to do so, they organize the National Indigenous Music Awards every year. This award gives Indigenous Australian music, its well-deserved recognition.
