Early Start

  • Aaquil Iben Shamon “Slim Jxmmi” Brown and his younger brother, Khalif Malik Ibn Shaman “Swae Lee” Brown, were born in Whittier, California.
  • During their early years, Slim Jxmmi and Swae Lee practiced together, danced together, and wrote music together.
  • Walker’s new companion, Floyd Sullivan, moved the family to the Ida Street housing project in Tupelo, Mississippi, when they were in middle school
  • During a game of basketball at a local park, the Brown brothers met Jemiah Middlebrooks.
  • The two decided to form a hip hop band called “Dem Outta St8 Boyz”, where Aaquil took the stage name “CaliBoy,” Khalif “Kid Krunk,” and Jemiah “Lil Pantz.” With money they earned from part-time jobs, they bought music equipment and produced music at home.
  • While studying at Tupelo High School, the two brothers met and later became friends with Jermarcus Jackson, aka JJ (today known as Jay Sremm), a young disc jockey, who later became the DJ of the group

Career Journey

  • 2010: The group launched the single “Party Animal”, which gave them local fame.
  • 2013: Rae Sremmurd was discovered by the Hip Hop audience due to their appearance on Mike Will Made It’s mixtape “#MikeWiLLBeenTriLL” on the track “We”. Their second single “No Type” along with its music video shot in Venice Beach, came out.
    Previously planned as an EP, their debut album, SremmLife, was released and the third single, “Throw Sum Mo,” was re-released. Nicki Minaj and Young Thug contributed vocals to promote the project.
  • 2016: Their next album, SremmLife 2 came out which spawned their first Billboard Hot 100 number-one song “Black Beatles”, which ranked in the charts.
  • 2017: The duo launched the single titled “Perplexing Pegasus”.
  • 2018: The duo released “T’d Up” as SremmLife 3’s second single and publicized three singles from SR3MM – Swae Lee’s “Hurt to Look”, Slim Jxmmi’s “Brxnks Truck”, and the duo’s “Powerglide” featuring previous collaborator Juicy J. They launched SR3MM, a triple disc set that included solo projects for each of the members (May).
  • 2022: Their fourth studio album, titled Sremm4Life, was brought to the public.
