Early Start

• Riton was born in Newcastle upon Tyne.
• His records were signed by Grand Central Records independent record label after he was discovered by Mark Rae.

Career Journey

• The song “Communicated” made its debut on Grand Central’s compilation album Central Heating 2 (2000). His mostly instrumental debut album Beats du Jour (2001) followed.
• Riton’s second album, Homies And Homos (2004), included a cover version of The Cure’s song “Killing an Arab” and also featured Lee Jones of Howdi and Luca Santucci.
• The Gucci Sound System was formed in 2005 by Riton and Ben Rymer.
  Under the pseudonym Ein Kleine Nacht Musik, Riton released his debut album on Modular Records in July 2008.
• In 2010, he collaborated with DJ Mehdi on a project called “Carte Blanche”.
• “Rinse & Repeat” was released by Riton’s own record label Riton Time at the beginning of 2016 that featured Kah-Lo’s vocals and achieved chart success.
• His album, Foreign Ororo, featured Kah-Lo, which contained hit songs like “Fake ID”, “Up & Down”, and “Ginger”.
• Riton sampled MK’s remix of Nightcrawlers’ “Push the Feeling On” to create “Friday”, a track released in 2021.

Awards & Recognition

• Rinse & Repeat gave him a Grammy Nomination.
• His co-production of “Electricity” by Dua Lipa and Silk City won the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.

• Smithson’s stage name Riton is French slang for “Henry”.
