When is World Intellectual Property Day and What Theme 2022

World Intellectual Property Day

On 26th April every year, World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated. World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) recognized this day in 2000 to “increase awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks, and designs affect daily life” and “celebrate innovation and the contribution of creators and innovators to the development of communities throughout the world.”

On 26 April each year, World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated. The theme for World Intellectual Property Day 2022 is ‘IP and Youth Innovating for a Better Future’. Events planned to mark the day aim to spread information about the role of intellectual property rights in promoting innovation.

Do you know? World Intellectual Property Organization was established on the same day on 26th April 1970. However, several activists and academics have denounced the event as one-sided propaganda supporting traditional copyright and neglecting alternatives like copyleft and the open culture movement.

History

After the World Intellectual Property Organizations Assembly of Member States. In September 1998, The Director-General of the National Algerian Institute for Industrial Property (INAPI) proposed the establishment of an international day for intellectual property. The goals were to provide the framework for more significant mobilization and awareness, access to the promotional component of innovation, and the accomplishments of intellectual property promoters throughout the world.

On 9th August 1999, the adoption of “World Intellectual Property Day” was proposed to WIPO by the Chinese delegation. It’s essential to promote awareness and urge other countries to popularize this concept and its laws and regulations. It also encourages invention-innovation activities, strengthens the exchange in the intellectual property field internationally, and enhances public awareness of all property rights.

Millennials and Generation Z

Today’s youngsters are a great, mostly untapped reservoir of innovation and resourcefulness. Around 1.8 billion people under the age of 24 are alive today. They reside in ninety per cent of the world’s poorer countries. In the future years, the share of young individuals (under 35) is expected to rise. Young people are natural agents of change in all regions, paving the way for a brighter future.

Change-makers, Millennials, and Generation Z are pragmatists who aren’t scared to speak up and question the current quo. The youngsters of today are digital natives. They grew up in a world that blurred the barriers between the actual and digital worlds, thanks to mobile phones and the Internet. As a result, a generation that is probably the most enterprising, inventive, and creative has emerged.

Calling all young people: whatever your goals are — the arts, science, or technology – a creative and inventive attitude backed by intellectual property rights will enable you to make a difference. Participate in this year’s campaign to learn more about IP and what it can achieve for you. We urge governments worldwide to pay attention to the needs and concerns of young innovators, creators, and entrepreneurs and adopt policies and programs that foster and support their efforts to innovate for the betterment of society. Due to Covid-19 Restriction, World Intellectual Property Day 2022 will be a hybrid event.

The World Intellectual Property Organization partners with various government agencies, non-governmental organizations, community groups, and individuals to organize multiple events and activities to commemorate World Intellectual Property Day.
