The Tiwi Islands are Northern Territory’s part of Australia. They are situated 80 km north of Darwin, the place where the Arafura Sea and the Timor Sea join.

The Tiwi Islands were home to the Indigenous Australian people. They have inhabited this island for about 7000 years. The European settlement on the Tiwi Islands began in the year 1824. The first settlement was at Fort Dundas, near the current Pirlangimpi on the Melville Island.

The Tiwi Island are the epitome of Indigenous Australian art. The inhabitants of this island are of Aboriginal descent. These islands still have the Indigenous Australia in its heart. This island is also famous for the annual football.
