Show Details

Carpenters Remembered is the ultimate musical presentation honoring one of the world’s most popular recording artists. In barely over a decade, the Carpenters sold over a hundred million albums and still hold the record for most consecutive top-ten songs. Karen’s voice and Richard’s songs and orchestration generated Grammy-winning enchantment and a worldwide cult of devoted followers. Michelle Berting Brett takes the stage with her Nashville band, including musicians who have performed with Donna Summer, Wynonna Judd, Hall & Oates, Collin Raye, Carly Simon, and Michael McDonald, among others. Berting Brett presents anecdotes from considerable study and interviews with individuals who knew Karen and Richard personally and professionally in the presentation, which recreates the Carpenters’ arrangements and sound.

Close to You: The Songs of the Carpenters premiered in Toronto, Canada, in April 2009, before premiering in the United States as We’ve Only Just Begun: Carpenters Remembered on Valentine’s Weekend of 2013. We’ve Only Just Begun: Carpenters Remembered has received rave reviews from fans and critics alike, from Washington State to New York City to SOLD OUT performances in Las Vegas and Downey, California, the Carpenters’ homeland. Sing along to tunes like “Close to You,” “Yesterday Once More,” “Rainy Days & Mondays,” and many more as you watch an intimate behind-the-scenes portrait of the pop music sensation that defined an era.

The Carpenters Biography

Karen Carpenter (1950–1983) and her brother Richard Carpenter (1950–1983) formed the Carpenters, an American singing and instrumental duet (born 1946). Karen’s contralto voice combined Richard’s harmonizing, arranging, and composing talents to create a distinct soft musical style. The Carpenters released ten albums and several singles and television specials throughout their 14-year career. In 1963, the siblings moved from New Haven, Connecticut, to Downey, California. Karen learned the drums while Richard received piano lessons as a kid and went to California State University, Long Beach. They initially collaborated as a duet in 1965, forming the jazz-oriented Richard Carpenter Trio, then the middle-of-the-road Spectrum.
