Teddy Swims Biography
Teddy Swims is the stage name of Jaten Dimsmade, an American singer-songwriter noted for fusing genres such as R&B, soul, country, and pop. Swims gained popularity through his YouTube cover performances, which have gathered 400 million views as of 2022. In January 2020, he released his first big label song, Unlearning, and has since released two EPs, Tough Love and Unlearning.
Swims started in several Atlanta-area bands, including alternative rock band WildHeart, post-hardcore band Eris, and soul and hair metal cover bands. Swims’ buddy Addy Maxwell urged him to rap over some beats he’d created in early 2019, and the pair landed an opening spot on Tyler Carter’s US tour. On this tour, he began performing under the moniker Teddy Swims, a play on a childhood nickname that alluded to his stature and an online acronym for “someone who isn’t me occasionally,” which alluded to the concept of blending many aspects of his personality.
