Wilsons Promontory National Park – All You Need to Know

Location
The Wilsons Promontory National Park is located in the Gippsland region of the state of Victoria, Australia. The park is situated in the southern part of the peninsula Wilson Promontory, which forms the southernmost part of the Australian Mainland.
History
As the history of Australia goes, the area is also inhabited by the native Australians some 6000 years ago. The end of the 1700s saw the beginning of European settlement.
In 1898, the region was allocated the status of temporary National Park. The permanent status was conferred in the year 1908.

The camping is the most enjoyable in the Wilsons promontory National Park. Who would not want to camp in this scenic location with the coastal view? The area of the park spans around the huge 50,500-hectare. The granite mountain tops, stunning location of the beaches and the diverse wilderness make the camping in the park an implausible experience.
Tidal River is used as the base for camping activities. It is located only 30 km from the entrance of the Park. It offers more than 400 camping and caravan sites. You can also enjoy the luxury of the modern day cabins offered there.
The lush green rainforests of Wilsons Promontory National Park provide shelter to more than 700 native plant species. It also has more than 30 species of mammals. You can see the adorable species of kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, koalas & bats in their own natural habitat.
The national park hosts more than 180 species of birds. Besides, you can find other animals such that species of the reptiles, amphibians, insects and other invertebrates. It is really a treat to watch such varied wildlife in an enchanting natural location.
The park has an extensive network of more than 80 km of walking tracks. The gorgeous scenery makes it a memorable experience to explore the park while walking.
If you enjoy hiking, you can test your stamina as the park provides various sites of overnight hiking sites. Sealers Cove, Refuge Cove, Little Waterloo Bay are some of the hiking sites.
You can also enjoy the bushwalking, diving and short walks around the Tidal River.
The west coast of the park has wonderful beaches that are very popular within the tourist. Some of them are Norman Beach, Picnic Bay, Squeaky Bay and Whiskey Bay, known for their pristine beauty.
The tourists can indulge in swimming, surfing, snorkeling and scuba diving depending on the individual beaches. The coastal sand dunes can also be seen there.

The area is extremely rich in animal species. Killer whales, dolphins, penguins and sea lions can be seen often in Wilsons Promontory National Park.

Camping is so popular in summers, from Christmas to late January (yes, it is summer during Christmas in Australia) that the camping sites are allocated through a ballot.
