Location of Hayman Island
The Hayman Island is a part of the Whitsunday Group of Islands. It is the northernmost island of this group which is located off Central Queensland’s coast in Australia. It is situated around 28 km north-east of Shute Harbour and around 900 km north of Brisbane.
History of Hayman Island
Captain James Cook arrived in these waters in the year 1770. The Hayman Island got its name from Thomas Hayman, a navigator of Commander George Nares.
Talking about the history of the luxury resort, a luxury resort has been on this island since the year 1950. In the year 1947, Reginald Ansett began working on the Royal Hayman Hotel, which was inaugurated in 1950. In 1987, a resort built by Sir Peter Abeles was opened. It was renovated in the year 2001. This 300 million dollar 5-star hotel is the most luxurious and one of the leading hotels in the world. It gave Hayman Island the reputation of a luxury holiday destination.
